Saturday was a historic day. The United States House of Representatives voted 220 – 215 to pass the Affordable Health Care for America Act. This legislation is a big step forward toward quality, stable, affordable health care. It will promote competition, slow the growth in health care costs, and improve the quality of care for millions of Americans.
As House Members who voted in favor of health care reform come home for Veteran’s Day Recess, they will need immediate constituent support and gratitude. Opponents of reform will not rest.
ACTION STEPS:
Make calls: Please engage your networks, staff, colleagues, and friends and ask them to reach out to their Members and say, “Thank you for supporting health reform.”
Plan events: If you have the capacity, pull together an event, whether it’s a large rally or a small group visit to the district office.
Write Letters to the Editor: We also need to place supportive letters to the editor in newspapers. Members read all the papers in their districts – not only the large papers, but also community dailies and weeklies. Thank your Members for doing the right thing by personalizing our template letters to the editor and placing them in small and large papers in your community.
We cannot stress enough the importance of every positive call, email, visit, and event.
We want to thank both Congressman Clyburn and Congressman Spratt for listening to their constituents in South Carolina and voting to pass this historic bill. In your letters and calls please thank the Congressmen and tell them you support their continued fight for quality, affordable health care for all.
